Even though it's been a little over a month since this play date, I guess it's kind of appropriate that I am writing this post today, the day our little buddy Owen is celebrating his 1st birthday! Unfortunately, we were unable to attend his birthday party because of a little big stomach bug that has attacked our sweet angels and left us secluded from the rest of the world. We were so disappointed not to be able to attend his special day but we definitely did not want to share our "fun" with anyone else. So, we decided to stay at home and be there in spirit instead :)
Our girls are about 3 months younger than Owen but the little chunkers aren't far off from him in size. I met Anna, Owen's mom, while I was still teaching at Holland. She may not realize it but she was a HUGE help to me while I was going through such a difficult time. Because I had to miss work a lot for medical reasons, I often had to call on subs to take care of my kiddos. Fortunately for me, Anna was one of those subs and because she had student taught with a good friend of mine in a PPCD classroom, I had full confidence in leaving my students under her care. The following year I was sad to lose Anna as a sub but was so excited for her as she started her journey as a teacher over at Kilpatrick in a life skills class. And not long after that, I found myself in ARD's with her as we prepared to send a couple of my students her way. How comforting it was for me to know that the kids that I had taught for so many years, were being placed with such a great teacher (who had even already worked with them)! I mean, she did get New Teacher of the Year at the end of her first year of teaching after all! What an honor!
So, after random exchanges with one another and then a little Mary Kay business on the side, Anna and I soon became friends and decided to start getting our little ones together for play dates. And if you know me at all, you must know that I documented this momentous event with a photo shoot :) While I am incredibly sad that we had to miss our friends big day today, I know that we have many more fun play dates in our future and I am truly looking forward to seeing our little ones grow up together!
Toys, toys, everywhere.....it wouldn't be a good play date if there weren't, right?!
Now look at this little cutie....love all that hair!!!
Just playing around...
Wrestling or going in for a smooch?!?! ;)
Seriously mom, I'm trying to play!
Having a little snack.
2/3 of the way there...
Trying to get three kids to pose for the camera is hard....we don't even care that there are no smiles because they are sitting/standing AND looking ;)
