Monday (1/24) - I went to work and even attended a church function pain free only to wake up in the middle of the night throwing up and in pain (again!).
Tuesday (1/25) - I tried soooo hard to go to work but just couldn’t make it. I even got as far as getting dressed only to have to stop every few seconds to lay down-the nausea was terrible. I was in bed most of the morning and then went in for an x-ray and to see Dr. Kent (my urologist). He said that it didn’t matter how big (or small rather) the stone is, if it’s stuck and/or turned a certain way it can cause a lot of pain. He gave me a strainer for my urine and told me if I didn’t bring him the stone by Thursday then I’d have to have surgery. He then proceeded to tell me about a man who waited 9 months to have his stone removed-at that point it was embedded in his ureter . OUCH!
Wednesday (1/26) - I was able to go to work and get things in order for my day off on Thursday...of course all the while planning on returning on Friday (ha!).
Thursday (1/27) - The 10-15 minute planned surgery turned into 45 minutes. The stone was stuck in my ureter-when he went in to grab it, it was pushed back into my kidney. He ended up blasting it into very tiny pieces. He then placed a stint in me. As soon as I woke up, I was in excruciating pain and they gave me morphine immediately. On the drive home I had James call work and let them know I wouldn’t be in on Friday. I knew at that point there was no way I could make it in. I spent the rest of the day in bed.
Friday (1/28) & Saturday (1/29) - I spent these two days in bed as well. Lots of drugs including pain medication which I had to take every 3 hours (not because they said to but because the pain was terrible). Honestly, it felt like I still had a kidney stone and really bad UTI.
Sunday (1/30) - I finally felt well enough to leave the house and go to church. It felt great to be out of the house but this did me in and then I was back in bed when I returned home.
Monday (1/31) - I went to work even though I felt TERRIBLE. I barely made it through the day (had to lay down during lunch) and then left around 2:45PM to go back to Dr. Kent’s office. He removed the stint (I was terrified-it didn’t hurt but it was definitely the WEIRDEST feeling every). I was sore for the rest of the night. I have to start drinking 2-3 Liters of water a day and intake less salt, nuts, & chocolate. I have to do a urinalysis in 4 weeks that will show if I need to make anymore diet changes. Oh, I forgot to mention, TMI but...did you know Vicodin causes constipation? Yep, another thing I had to deal with....the medicine Dr. Kent suggested worked and I was awake at 1:00AM taking care of business.
Tuesday (2/1) - The first time I have actually felt good in over two weeks. Ahhhh-sigh of relief!
I might just be ready for this “winter” to be over with!
