Approval Addiction

Book #14: Approval Addiction (Author: Joyce Meyer)

"An addiction is something that controls people---something they feel they cannot do without or something they do to alleviate pain or pressure.  It comes in many varieties, such as drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, shopping, eating, work---and yes, even approval.  Like any addict, insecure people look for a 'fix' when they get shaky.  They need someone to reaffirm them and assure them that everything is all right.

The good news is that they, and you, don't have to suffer with insecurity; there is a cure for the approval addiction.  The Word of God says we can be secure through Jesus Christ (see Ephesians 3:17).  That means we are free to be ourselves and become all we can be in Him." ---FROM THE INTRODUCTION

My Thoughts:  This is one of the first books I read after starting counseling and I cannot say enough good things about it.  Although it isn't necessarily 'fun' to put all my stuff out there for you to see, I don't want to pass up this opportunity to help someone out who struggles with similar issues.  I don't think it's any secret that I am somewhat insecure and a people pleaser....the surprise was on me when I found out that this is actually considered an "addition."  I truly had no idea and for the the most part felt like it was just a part of who I am....that I couldn't necessarily change my ways.  Well, I was wrong and although it will probably be a battle that I have to work at for the rest of my life, I am happy to say that I have already come so far.  Peace is an incredible feeling so check this book out!
